Competency 1.3

Organise your monitoring and information diet

Boundary this domain concerns our relationship to the content we receive. It judges content and cultures, never technical systems — understanding algorithms, platforms and data belongs to the Analyse domain.

Definition

Deliberately choosing your incoming feeds, structuring a reactivatable monitoring practice, and managing your attention as a scarce resource. At expert level, this competency culminates in a personal knowledge-management system where what is captured genuinely feeds what is created. It turns endured consumption into chosen nourishment.

Components

  • Auditing your own information consumption: volumes, sources, the chosen share against the endured share
  • Selecting and curating sources: entry and exit criteria for a monitoring basket
  • Monitoring tools and setups: feeds, alerts, newsletters, lists, aggregators
  • Capturing and organising knowledge: note-taking, tagging, linking ideas together
  • Reactivation in production: the path from monitoring to note to creation (personal knowledge-management system)
  • Attentional balance: proportion, disconnection, choosing what not to follow

The four levels

  1. N1 Discovery Lower secondary · complete beginner

Is able to describe what they consume online and to distinguish chosen content from endured content.

    Evidence of assessment

Keep a consumption diary for seven days and analyse the chosen share and the endured share.

  2. N2 Application Upper secondary · advanced beginner

Is able to compose a deliberate basket of sources and to remove or add items according to explicit criteria.

    Evidence of assessment

Present a monitoring setup (list of sources, rhythm, tool) with each choice justified.

  3. N3 Adaptation Tertiary · junior professional

Is able to maintain an organised monitoring system whose captures demonstrably feed their creative output.

    Evidence of assessment

Demonstrate the path from monitoring to note to published content on at least three real examples.

  4. N4 Orchestration Experienced professional

Is able to run a documented personal knowledge system in daily use, and to design shared monitoring for a team.

    Evidence of assessment

Present their knowledge-management system in real use, and the monitoring setup put in place for a collective.
