Competency 7.4
Build platform-independent assets
Boundary everything touching economic and patrimonial value. Running a project without a monetary dimension belongs to Venture; respecting the rights of others belongs to Collaborate (5.2), of which competency 7.2 is the mirror.
Definition
Building what remains when a platform changes its rules or disappears: an owned audience, a brand, portable content and data, dependencies mapped and controlled. The ultimate test of a creator's solidity is not their size, but their ability to survive the death of their main channel.
Components
- Rented audience against owned audience: what the platform lends, what belongs to us
- Owned channels: mailing list, website, self-hosted community
- Portability: exports, backups, the ability to migrate content and contacts
- Mapping dependencies: tools, channels, revenues — identifying single points of failure
- The brand as an asset: name, reputation, recognition transferable from one channel to another
- Reasoned distribution: multi-platform presence conceived as risk management
The four levels
- N1 Discovery Lower secondary · complete beginner
Is able to explain what they would lose if their main platform closed tomorrow.
Evidence of assessment
Analyse their own online presence under the scenario “if my main platform shuts down”.
- N2 Application Upper secondary · advanced beginner
Is able to open and sustain an owned channel alongside the platforms.
Evidence of assessment
Maintain an active direct channel — mailing list, website, own group — sustained for two months.
- N3 Adaptation Tertiary · junior professional
Is able to map their digital dependencies and to secure the most critical ones.
Evidence of assessment
Map all their digital dependencies and secure the three most critical.
- N4 Orchestration Experienced professional
Is able to build a resilient presence in which most of the value rests on owned assets.
Evidence of assessment
Demonstrate, with figures, the share of their audience and revenue resting on owned assets, with a continuity plan.
