Competency 5.4

Build and nurture a community

Boundary everything that involves others — peers, rights holders, audiences, communities. The economic dimension of partnerships (negotiation, contracts) belongs to the Monetise domain.

Definition

Moving from a rented audience to an owned community: building a direct bond founded on permission and trust, nurturing it through rituals and participatory formats, and measuring community health beyond raw volume. This is where the shift from an attention economy to an intention economy becomes concrete know-how.

Components

  • Audience against community: aggregated spectators versus members connected to each other
  • Direct channels: email, groups, spaces of your own — the bond that outlives platforms
  • Rituals and participatory formats: appointments, contributions, co-construction
  • Trust and permission: promise kept, consent respected, the bond not exploited
  • Governance: rules, roles, driving members, progressive delegation
  • Community health: measuring participation and retention rather than raw volume
