Competency 5.3
Interact and conduct yourself online
Boundary everything that involves others — peers, rights holders, audiences, communities. The economic dimension of partnerships (negotiation, contracts) belongs to the Monetise domain.
Definition
Interacting constructively in digital spaces: adapting to the codes of each space, responding to criticism, de-escalating conflict, moderating, and being aware of the relational footprint left behind. Every public interaction is a creation that says something about its author.
Components
- Conversation codes specific to each space: public comment, group, private message, forum
- Responding to criticism: telling grounded criticism from attack, answering the one, handling the other
- De-escalation: not feeding provocation, leaving a conflict from above
- Moderating a space: explicit rules, fair enforcement, protection of members
- Relational footprint: what the history of our interactions builds or destroys
- Reporting and protection: reacting to harassment, protecting yourself and others
The four levels
- N1 Discovery Lower secondary · complete beginner
Is able to adapt their expression to the space of exchange and to identify toxic behaviour.
Evidence of assessment

- N2 Application Upper secondary · advanced beginner
Is able to respond publicly to criticism in a constructive way.
Evidence of assessment
Respond — in a real or simulated situation — to grounded criticism and to hostile criticism, with distinct and justified strategies.
- N3 Adaptation Tertiary · junior professional
Is able to moderate a space of exchange and to defuse an emerging conflict.
Evidence of assessment
Document the moderation of a space over a given period: rules set, cases handled, decisions taken.
- N4 Orchestration Experienced professional
Is able to define the conversation policy of a brand or a community and to handle a sensitive situation.
Evidence of assessment
Write a moderation charter and document the full handling of a high-stakes conflict.
